Information For Authors

Aims and Scope

The International Journal of Urology (IJUH) is published online semi-annually in English and invites scholars to submit unpublished papers for peer-reviewed consideration. The journal seeks original work across a broad range of topics in urology and urologic history, encouraging submissions that will engage readers including the lay public, students of medicine, physicians, healthcare practitioners, and educators in medical history. Communications should be addressed to the Editor, The International Journal of Urology, 19 Sunshine Cottage, 1SB48, Valhalla, NY 10595 or via e-mail: editor@ijuh.org. Authors are encouraged to submit their work through the IJUH website at www.ijuh.org, where simplified submission instructions are provided.

Types of Manuscripts

IJUH accepts manuscripts in the following categories:

  1. Original Research

Original research articles should be no longer than 3,000 words and should include primary data acquisition and analysis, historical studies, or innovative methodologies like machine learning. The manuscript must follow the structure: Abstract (200 words), Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. References should not exceed 20, and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) citation style should be used. All figures and tables must be numbered and referred to in the text.

  2. Archival Studies

Archival studies are welcomed, especially those promoting urologic archives and museums, cataloging the author’s original findings, and detailing how such archives may be accessed. Papers should emphasize the value of such archives in advancing urological history.

  3. Technology

Submissions in this category should cover the evolution and effectiveness of surgical instruments, analyzing how they have shaped the treatment of urological conditions within their historical context.

  4. Graphics

IJUH will publish photographic essays, illustrations, and digital or analog art that visually portray the history of urology or urologic humanity. High-quality images (500kB or larger) are strongly encouraged, with no more than 10 images per submission. Screenshots are discouraged due to poor pixel quality.

  5. Humanities

Essays, reflections, interviews, biographies, poetry, or other historical works related to urology are considered, with a word limit of 1,500 words. The journal welcomes submissions that bring fresh perspectives to the field, blending science with the humanities.

Additional Guidelines

  1. Permissions:

Authors must provide written permissions when including any research on living individuals, images, or archived materials. The IJUH website provides a Permissions Form that must be submitted with the manuscript.

  2. Statistics:

Original research should include clear explanations of statistical methods. Uncommon or sophisticated statistical techniques should be detailed, and where multiple tests are used, a justification should be provided.

  3. Ethics:

The IJUH upholds high ethical standards, requiring original, unpublished submissions. Authors are responsible for properly citing direct quotes from historical or previously published texts and obtaining permission for such use.

  4. Co-Authorship:
